Our Formula Questions

How does StingMaster work?

StingMaster contains rhubarb extract, which we discovered has a molecule that specifically blocks the pain caused by lionfish venom. How? Well it goes to the same place in the nervous system and prevents the pain-causing toxins in lionfish venom from activating your nerves and sending pain signals to your brain.

Why is there lidocaine in the formula?

We include lidocaine in our formula for FDA labeling purposes! The REAL magic ingredient in our formula is the rhubarb extract: we discovered that a molecule that can be found naturally in rhubarb extract can directly block the pain caused by lionfish stings.

Is StingMaster just a lidocaine cream?

NO! We include lidocaine in our formula since we are an OTC product that treats pain. FDA regulations oblige us to include Lidocaine in order for us to make the claim that we treat pain. The REAL magic ingredient in our formula is the rhubarb extract, see above. So StingMaster is not just a Lidocaine cream! If anything, it’s a rhubarb cream.

Lionfish Questions

How common are lionfish stings?

People get stung by lionfish after getting punctured by one or a few of their venomous spines that are found on their back. Lionfish don’t typically attack people, so they would usually get stung by either trying to touch one, stepping on one, while pulling them off of their spear or while cleaning/fileting them.

Are lionfish venomous or poisonous?

Lionfish are venomous! But once you cut off their spines, you’ve removed their venom and they’re totally safe to eat (and delicious too)!

What happens after you get stung by a lionfish?

It’ll hurt like crazy, it swells up and gets very red but don’t worry, you won’t die! StingMaster will block the pain caused by the venom and reduce some of the swelling and inflammation caused by the sting, so instead of having your day ruined by a lionfish sting, you can go on as though nothing happened!

Stings & Treatment Questions

Why does StingMaster work on so many different stings?

We formulated StingMaster to treat the most painful sting in the ocean: lionfish stings. Once we finished our formula, tested it against lionfish venom and knew that it worked – we let it out into the world for people to try for themselves. Surprisingly, we were getting feedback from people that StingMaster seems to work on a variety of stings including (but not limited to) jellyfish, sea lice, and fire coral!

What happens after you get stung by a jellyfish, sea lice or fire coral?

After you get stung by a jellyfish, sea lice or fire coral, you can expect to feel a lot of pain at the site of the sting. Some people experience swelling and blister formation from jellyfish and sea lice depending on the species of jellyfish/how bad the sting was. You can also expect to experience a lot of redness, but mostly a very painful sting! StingMaster blocks the pain caused by these stings within seconds. Thanks to the fast relief, you’ll be able to go back to whatever you were doing, and you won’t itch/touch your sting as much, resulting in some reduction in swelling and blister formation.
